The Launch of The Beatles Walking Tour

Over the past two weeks, The Walking Beatle Tour has officially been launched!

The tour is led by myself (Dale Roberts) and is an idea that I’ve had for quite some time, it’s taken different shapes, forms and has developed and will continue to evolve. It’s a cross between a few tours I’ve already delivered over the years, blended into a new tour that is a solid package, perfect for solo travellers, couples, corporate groups, groups in general and people wanting to know more about their own city.

I’ve worked for some of the cities biggest tourist attractions, I’ve even designed tours that have gone on to have global recognition, but this tour is different to being on a bus, or an open topper or in a venue… It’s less orchestrated and more natural to deliver because you’re not behind windows but on the streets. Something that is real and less polished.

I’ve wanted a more personal tour offering for a while, an intimate tour that enables people to ask questions, have fun and become part of the city, visiting hidden gems, pubs that aren’t as well known, but full of locals that almost become part of the story themselves.

Yes it’s a Beatle tour, but as always I bring the Beatles in as secondary to the city itself - Liverpool, it’s people, culture, history, heritage, music, comedy, architecture, characters and the Merseybeat are what this tour is really all about.

A sincere thank you to Carolyn Hughes who ran both launch events, she’s a great promoter of Liverpool and such a lovely person. Thanks also to everyone who came on the tour over the past few weeks, special mention to Pete Price and Bill Addy contributing with their stories.

Also to Charlie Martin (who is the most qualified Beatle guide in the city!), who I started doing Beatles Pub Crawl Tours with many years ago, this tour is an evolution coming from that, I owe it to her. Also Stefanie Hempel who does a walking tour like this in Hamburg, I went on it the other year and it absolutely blew me away and it sparked my enthusiasm to get back into walking tours, so thank you.

Also to The Cavern, specifically Bill and Jon. In 2018, Bill asked me to start guiding on Behind The Scenes Tours of The Cavern Club, the only time in the clubs history that scheduled tours of the venue have operated. Bill showed me the concept, helped me along the way and I ran with it. Jon and Bill had to step in as guides on the two occasions I couldn’t do the tour. The tour ended in 2020, but at one point during the pandemic the only way you could get in The Cavern Club was with me on a Behind The Scenes Tour. Once that year ended, so did the tour and when Bill asked me to become manager of the Magical Mystery Tour in late 2021, it put an end to the hopes that it would come back. This tour is a history of Mathew Street and The Cavern, without the behind the scenes element, but with all of the story. This tour wouldn’t have the same impact if I hadn’t served my time doing tours of The Cavern Club.

Thank you to the photographers who have been great: Alejandra, Emma, Charlotte, James, Martin and to the main man Sean/Ichbingen (without him I wouldn’t be guiding or running Liverpool Eco Tours) who is a great photographer and friend, thank you for all the lovely pictures and videos, I’ll be sharing them throughout the year.

The tour will be running Monday, Thursday and Sunday night depending on availability and will also be available as a private tour, so feel free to get in touch to find out more.
